Associate Professor Crotti's primary research is in the field of pathological processes of bone and joint diseases, in particular, inflammation-induced bone loss (Osteoimmunology).
The Bone and Joint Research Laboratories carry out pre-clinical and clinical research to explore cell regulation, bone pathology and pain mechanisms associated with rheumatoid arthritis, periodontal disease and chemotherapy treatment using complementary in vivo and in vitro murine models, patient samples and clinical data in collaboration with pain specialists and rheumatologists.
Recent work has also explored the patient experience, well being and language in patients with JIA, pelvic pain and PTSD in collaboration with linguistics experts, gynaecologists and Military and Emergency Services Health Australia (MESHA).
As an Education Specialist at the University of Adelaide and Senior Fellow of Higher Education Advance (SF HEA), Associate Professor Crotti is active in evidence-based training at the undergraduate and postgraduate level. In the undergraduate space, A/Prof Crotti has published and presented internationally on the preparation of undergraduate students for a career in research and authentic assessment. In the postgraduate space, her particular interest is supporting supervisors and Postgraduate Coordinators in "beyond the bench" training, supporting well being and creating community. Most recently she has been awarded the Australian Council of Graduate Research Leadership Award (2023) and has been invited to participate in the Asia Pacific Women in Leadership (APWiL) (2023/24) cohort as a mentor.
